Never Forget How Amazing You Truly Are

I am beautiful!

I woke up this morning, looked in the mirror and said “hot damn, I am so amazing,” and in the words of the song Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars “I could kiss myself I’m so pretty”. I am the most gorgeous thing I have ever seen!

Really? I have read in the Louise Hay books that on my mirror I should place lots of post it notes with sayings on, things like ‘My body is a temple’ (a temple to Cadbury’s chocolate maybe) and ‘I am beautiful’ which is really good advice as words have power remember. However, in reality most days I rush in grab the makeup bag and half blind without my glasses dab on a little colour here and there and run. My inner dialogue based on my own insecurities is probably saying “I should really start thinking about a good wig” or “tomorrow I shall start my new eating plan, my new exercise regime….” and by then I’ve started my day.

I have friends who look in the mirror and count every line. I know people who are obsessed with their looks. Those who won’t leave the house without a full makeover.  And, it is true that looks and age do count in the corporate world and on social media. Reality TV shows and social media means that anyone can suddenly find themselves scrutinised about how they look, what they wear and who they are seen with. However, that said true natural beauty comes from within and some people simply glow.

You may think that you are not the most beautiful person in the world, or the cleverest. You may have phobias and quirkiness. You may have fears and insecurities but that’s what makes you unique and that’s ok. The only thing you have to strive for is to be the best you can be. The best Silvia you can be. The best John you can be. The best person you can actually be is enough. When we realise that beauty resides within and we are perfect the way we are then we stop striving to become who we think we need to be and start being. To be beautiful is about being yourself, accepting who you truly are and to laugh at all your idiosyncrasies.

This has been my biggest lesson and one I tell my children……  Never settle! Never take second best because you don’t feel beautiful enough for the best. Because you feel that you will never get the break you are looking for, the person of your dreams or the opportunity for your one minute of fame. Never think that you are too young, too old, too poor or too shy to get what you want from life. You have as much right to be happy as anyone.

I have personally known people that live more in one year then most will in a lifetime. These people are dynamic, fearless and confident. These people know what they want and they go for it. Many of us will have preconceived ideas that these types of people are generally not very nice people. That they are self-centred and think only of themselves. I have found it not necessarily to be the case. The big difference I have found is wrapped up in the character of their personality. These personality types generally are happy in their own skin (and many have been no oil painting), and say yes to opportunities that come their way without fear.

Dr Masaru Emoto before his death in 2014 wrote about water crystals. He wrote that we are made up of 60% water and through his experiments he tried to prove that human consciousness can effect water crystals on a molecular level. Another experiment he recorded was with rice. Three exact same jars of rice have words written on their lids, love, hate and ignore. Then over a period of three weeks one minute a day is spent with each jar. The love jar is told how wonderful it looks and how much it is loved. The hate jar is told how disgusting it is and the ignore jar is ignored. Three weeks later the love jar is still almost the same as when it started. The hate jar is mouldy and black and the ignore jar is somewhere in between. Successful, confident, happy people are definitely the love jars. More love, light and peace makes my world a better place. If the power of our thought can affect the molecular make up of our bodies, then we really should be careful what we say to ourselves when we look in the mirror.

I’ve just seen a preview for a new movie called ‘I Feel Pretty’ staring Amy Schumer. It’s about a women struggling with insecurities who wakes up from a fall at the gym believing she is the most beautiful and capable woman on the planet. It looks hilarious and one for the diary. Maybe, I just need a good bang on the head myself!

So, tomorrow morning when I look in the mirror I shall pick up my hair brush, pretend it’s  a microphone and sing completely out of tune to the  words of my very best friend Bruno Mars:

When I see your face

There’s not a thing that I would change ’cause you’re amazing

Just the way you are

And when you smile

The whole world stops and stares for a while

‘Cause girl you’re amazing

Just the way you are.
