The Cold Full Moon – A Shared Ritual

Seasons, Moon Cycles and Celebrations

It’s an exciting time of year for energy work. With the winter solstice rapidly approaching, the darkness will lose its battle and we can celebrate the return of the light. Within a few days of this festive event, our attention turns to Christmas. This year we are blessed with a full moon on the 25th. The last full moon to fall on Christmas day was in 1977 so it’s a fairly rare occurrence.

The cold and dark winter months have always been a great time for inner work. With fewer distractions and more time at home, our inner worlds become a space we inhabit more frequently so ‘clearing out’ these spaces is time well spent. The Cold Full Moon of December 25th falls close to the end of the year so it’s a good time to utilise the lunar energy to assist you in matters of closure. It’s a time to let go of the grievances and upsets of the last year and a time to rejoice in your achievements and accomplishments. It is also important (as it always is!) that we use this period to freely express our gratitude. I always feel a tangible sense of magic and wonder in the air at this time. It may be cold and dark but the world is a glow with colourful lights, families and loved ones gather to celebrate and acts of kindness and goodwill appear to take centre stage.

For this full moon, I encourage you to undertake a different type of ritual. This is less about quiet meditation and more about the sharing of experiences, hopes and aspirations with your nearest and dearest. This is a time to turn off your mobile phones, tablets, laptops and televisions and really see each other, engage in conscious conversation and revel in the natural expansion of energy that occurs between you and those around you when you fully engage in the moment with open hearts.

All you really need for this is some paper, pens and three pots/cups/glasses. Chose a time on Christmas day where everyone can be sat together around a table or in a circle and you can give this your full attention. Dim the lights and perhaps light some candles to help set the mood. Each person in the circle will need three pieces of paper. On one they should write the thing that has been hardest for them over the last year, the thing that they need to let go of and set free in order to move forward. Once completed, fold them up and place them in one pot. On the second piece of paper, everyone should write the thing this year that they are most proud of. Again these need to be folded and all placed in the second pot. Lastly, on the third piece of paper, write three things that you are most grateful for about this year. As before, fold these up and place them all in the third pot. When everyone has finished, take the first pot, shuffle the papers around and select someone in the circle to pick one out and read it aloud to the group. When they have read it, everyone needs to guess who they think the paper belongs to.

This is a simple thing to do but you may well be amazed at the things you find out about those closest to you and the conversations that these create. If everyone comes to this ritual with an open heart and a willingness to share their innermost fears and joys, this is an exercise which will strengthen bonds, heal hearts and create a magical energetic connection between all involved. Think of it as a meaningful game if you will. The energy that you create between each other will be accentuated by the lunar energy of the full moon. A truly blissful experience for all involved.

As always, we would love to hear about your own experiences with this ritual so let us know!

However you are choosing to celebrate the festive season, have a magical time filled with bright blessings xxx
