October Full Moon Ritual 2015

Seasons, Moon Cycles and Celebrations

On Tuesday the 27th October, a few days before the Samhain celebrations, we are blessed with a full moon. This full moon is known by many names; the falling leaf moon, the shedding moon and the hunters moon. Being so close to Samhain, it is a sacred time which many believe offers the opportunity to experience a heightened connection with those in the spirit world as the veil between our worlds thins. There is a tangible sense of the energy changing around us as we move into the darker part of the year and this coupled with the powerful lunar energy make it a potent time for remembering and connecting with those that are no longer physically with us.

Use this simple full moon ritual to make the most of this time:

  • Create a space dedicated to those that you wish to remember. This could be as simple as a photo and a candle or as elaborate as you wish to make it. It is good to do this a few days before the ritual.

  • If you work with crystals, you may want to have some selected to heighten the energy of your ritual even further. We would recommend working with Shakkuckite and Morganite for this as they are said to increase your connection with the spirit realms. You can find out more about these by clicking on the words above.

  • On the night of the full moon, select a place to conduct your ritual. Maybe you have a special place connected to the loved one you are remembering at this time? Perhaps you have a place unique to you which always makes you feel more connected? Choose a place where you feel at ease and where you can have the space and peace to focus your thoughts and intentions.

  • At your scheduled time, go to your selected ritual place and take with you a token dedicated to those you are remembering, your choice of crystals, a candle and a pen and paper.

  • Light a candle and then spend some time relaxing your body and your mind, take slow deep breathes and bring your intention to the present moment. As you are connecting with spirit during this ritual, it is good practice to protect your aura. There are many ways to do this and you may have certain practices you use already. If not, a simple way is to spend a few minutes visualising yourself pulling a big deep blue velvet cloak around your body. Really picture this in your minds eye, imagine the feel of the cloak around your body and thank the universe for the protection you are given during this sacred time.

  • When you are ready, hold your chosen crystals (if you have them) and say aloud the following: ‘I call upon the abundant lunar energy of this special full moon to assist me in connecting with those I love who are no longer with me in the physical plane. I accept your assistance with love and gratitude’.

  • Using your pen and paper, begin to write to the person you wish to connect with. This could be anything at all that you wish to say. As you do this, hold this person into your mind and visualise them there with you. Spend as much time on this as feels natural to you. If it’s more comfortable, just think about the things you wish to say rather than write them down.

  • When you have finished, continue to hold the person in your thoughts, allow your mind to fill with memories and all the love and joy they bought to your life in the physical realms. This may feel emotional for you, and that’s ok, allow this to flow through you and know that you are, and will always stay connected through spirit.

  • When you have finished, thank your loved ones for their presence with you and thank the moon for its lunar energy.

However your chose to celebrate this special full moon, we send you bright blessings, and as always, much love, light and happiness.
