May Full Moon Ritual – Saturday 21st May

Seasons, Moon Cycles and Celebrations

It’s full moon time again! On Saturday the 21st May, we welcome The Full Flower Moon (Also known as the Milk or Hare Moon). This is typically a time for romance, fertilisation and relationships. Astrologically, the Gemini sun opposes the moon in Sagittarius which means communication, attitude and a sense of adventure are also central to the energies this particular full moon represents.

You may find that you experience a conflict between your logical and intuitive minds at this time. The Gemini/Sagittarius mix is likely to stir up a mental polarity between these two energies so it is important that you attempt to strike a balance, particularly as Mars is still in retrograde. Try to avoid big decisions or changes that are based on pure logic or pure emotion. You could regret this later. This aside, the full moon in Sagittarius is a time of expansion. Be aware and focused on the things that you want to promote in your life and cast aside the things that do not serve you well.

For this full moon ritual, I encourage you to find a way of getting out in the open air. We have had some gorgeous weather so hopefully this will not pose too much of a task for you! The emphasis of this ritual will be on your romantic relationships. It doesn’t matter if you have a partner or not, this is about bringing a focussed awareness to how you operate within your existing or forthcoming connections.

If you are currently in a relationship, spend some time contemplating this on the run up to the full moon. Think about all the things within your partnership that you are grateful for, the things you love about the person you are with. If you have been experiencing difficulties, try and approach these thoughts from where your responsibilities lie within this. You and your partner have co-created your existing circumstances. You will find issues have a far quicker resolve when you focus on your part within the co-creation rather than casting negative energies towards your partner. Write down all your thoughts in preparation for your ritual.

If you are single, spend this time in one of two ways.  You could focus on your relationship with yourself. This is often the most neglected relationship of all! Consider all the things you truly love about yourself. If there are things you would like to change, think about how you would go about that rather than lingering too long on the things themselves. Alternatively, you may like to contemplate the sort of relationship you would like to manifest in your life. Consider the qualities you would love to experience in a partner. Visualise your ideal partner on a soul level; what sort of person will assist you in growing on your path (and equally you for them!). As above, make a note of all your considerations as you will need this for your ritual.

On the night of the full moon, find a space in the open air and take with you your written thoughts that you prepared earlier. You may want to light a small fire as the Sagittarius moon is linked to this element. If you work with crystals, Nephrite Jade is particularly useful for this ritual as it works on the heart chakra, opening, pulling in and sending out universal love.

Take off your shoes and feel the earth beneath your feet. Close your eyes and spend some time focusing on relaxing your mind and body. Feel the connection with all that is around you and thank the moon for its glorious presence for your ritual. When you are ready, holding your piece of paper between both hands, bring into your mind one of the following a) your partner, b) your own spirit or c) the partner you are yet to meet. As you bring this person into the forefront of your mind, allow feelings of love to be projected onto them. If you are experiencing difficulties with the person in question, try to put those feelings to one side and focus on sending the energy of love to them. This is about you cultivating love and compassion in your relationships so all the more reason to do this exercise! Visualise the true and pure spirit of this person and hold the feelings of love toward them for as long as is comfortable.

When you have done this, focus your feelings of love to all that is around you. Envisage your connection to Mother Earth and all her gifts. When you have done this, hold your paper up to the moon and ask for the lunar energy to amplify your feelings of love and compassion in the coming weeks. If you have noted things that you would like to change, ask the moon to support you in bringing these things to fruition in the next cycle. When you have finished, either cast your note into the fire or bury it in the earth. As you do this, thank the moon for its energy and support.

As with everything in our lives, it all starts from within. Relationships whether they are good, bad or yet unseen, are born from a dance of energy between two souls on two equally important paths. The only thing we can control in this dance is our own footwork! Cultivate kindness, love and compassion in your relationships and energetically you will attract the same.

Have a wonderful full moon and a love filled month ahead!
